Six Veterans from Spring Hills Cherry Hill Assisted Living and more from the South Jersey community received a Veteran’s Medal from Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn and Lt. Col. Al Bancroft on Monday, November, 7, 2016. Veterans or their surviving spouses were presented with The Camden County Military Service Medal or the Korean War Service Medal.
Among the men receiving this honor was Ernest Franciotti, a Spring Hills Cherry Hill resident. It was recently discovered that Franciotti is missing the only photo of himself in uniform when he was in France and only 19 years old. Franciotti was a Sargent in the Army during WWII. During his time in the war, he created the maps pilots needed for targeting where to drop bombs. At this ceremony, a photo was taken of him receiving his medal to be framed in an effort to replace his wartime photograph.
Another Spring Hills resident and attendee at this ceremony is Maurice Karen. A veteran of the Korean War, when he returned Karen dedicated 10 years working to have the Philadelphia Korean War Memorial at Penn’s Landing created.
In addition to the medal presentation, the ceremony will include the singing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and an Invocation. The Cherry Hill Super Seniors as well as the veterans’ family and friends will be joining them at this celebration which includes a reception after the ceremony.
