On July 9, Veterans and their families from Spring Hills Mt. Vernon Assisted Living took a Dream Flight in a restored 1940’s Boeing Stearman open cockpit biplane from World War II. The veterans sat in the cockpit with a pilot as they soared off the tarmac. The program was courtesy of Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a non-profit dedicated to honoring seniors who have served in the United States army. Everyone also enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches, cookies, Gatorade and water.
The veterans were:
- Colonel Frank Myska, 87 years old, US Air Force from 1951 to 1982, fought in Vietnam, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs. He finished his career at the Pentagon.
- Staff Sergeant Robert Wesemann, 80 years old, US Army from 1961-1966, fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Received a Purple Heart and Silver Star
- Captain Alfred Mackey, 75 years old, US Marine Corp, fought in Vietnam, Received a Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Ribbon, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Campaign Ribbons. Alfred remembers, “Although I was a lawyer I was trained as a rifle platoon commander.”
Each veteran received an autographed flyer hat with the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation emblem as a souvenir from their flight.
