The Spring Hills Somerset Assisted Living Community has earned Advanced Standing, a quality distinction based on rigorous performance standards for licensed assisted living and personal care homes in the state, from the Health Care Association of New Jersey Foundation (HCANJF) in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH).
“We are honored to receive this award from one of the industry’s most respected institutions,” said Marta Olander, MHS, LNHA, CALA, Executive Director of Spring Hills Somerset. “It’s a testament to the work our team puts in every day to create the best experience possible for our residents and their families.” Alexander Markowits, President/CEO of Spring Hills Somerset’s parent company Spring Hills Senior Communities, added “The Advanced Standing evaluation provides consumers with information to help them make important decisions for themselves and their loved ones. We are ecstatic for the team at Spring Hills Somerset for having their efforts acknowledged in this way.”
In notifying Olander about this year’s designation, the HCANJ said: “The Department of Health has granted your facility the distinction of Advanced Standing. This distinction is bestowed upon an assisted living facility that successfully complies with all state, federal and local regulations that pertain to licensed assisted living facilities and comprehensive personal care homes in the State of New Jersey. Additionally, Spring Hills Somerset has proven their dedication to quality by meeting the benchmarks for certain prescribed quality indicators as chosen by the Peer Review Panel of the Health Care Association of New Jersey Foundation.”
The criteria for Advanced Standing were established in 2012 by the New Jersey Department of Health to create a standard that is designed to elevate quality at assisted living facilities. The benchmarks that facilities must hit for “Advanced Standing” status were developed by a peer review panel, whose members include representatives of the state’s health department and the foundation of the HCANJ, the trade association for nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
The panel reviewed a wide variety of practice areas including the administration of medication and treatment, meal service and dietary requests, activity programs and specific programming for residents with cognitive issues, as well as employee training and housekeeping. Communities were also evaluated on their commitment to resident councils, family participation and their methods for soliciting resident feedback and family satisfaction.
