NURTURING GROWTH AS AN ASSOCIATE

March 31, 2021 | Blog

As a company, we understand the importance of making sure associates feel heard and appreciated all year long. However, especially during these trying times, we have found it even more obvious that our staff are our most valuable resource and nurturing their growth is a priority. That is why we aim to provide a workspace to allow for growth and for leaders to help aid in that growth. At Spring Hills we offer a variety of initiatives and benefits to the people who work for us to help make it clear that we value them as part of our team whether they work for our assisted living, memory care, or post-acute care branches. Here are some ways leaders can nurture growth of their associates and some ways our associates can succeed.

Leaders Nurturing Growth

Leadership plays a huge role in an associate’s growth and success in a company. Associates that feel seen, heard, cared for, connected to, and challenged ultimately perform better which is better for business. Our associates at Spring Hills work so hard to care for our residents and we constantly show potential and growth within teams, and individuals. Here are some ways people in leadership roles can nurture that growth and aid in the success of each associate.

Connect

Connecting our associates to understand the importance of every roll plan in the company is really imperative to having a well balanced and structured company. It is what allows every associate to uphold the mission of the brand which for Spring Hills is to demonstrate “Caring with a Commitment to Quality” by aspiring to the highest professional standards, while providing care and services in a nourishing, compassionate environment that supports the health and well being of each of our Clients. Good leaders are not only able to understand the mission but communicate that message to those under them consistently and authentically.

Challenge

A good guide to success is being able to upstand challenges that you face, whether that’s in your personal life or your work environment. It’s great to get praise and be rewarded but the real knowledge and learning comes from facing challenges head on and knowing how to deal with them in Daniel Pink’s book Drive, he points out 3 important essential motivators: mastery, autonomy, and purpose. Mastery is a very important one that allows associates to get really good at something. It is important for leaders to present challenges to associates in order for them to master their craft by finding solutions to challenges and ultimately finding success.

Act On Goals and Prepare for Growth

Good leadership acknowledges individual associates’ goals and knows how to incorporate those goals into the brands operation. That is why it is important to find ways to provide individual opportunities that cater to associates’ goals and help them on their journey to professional and personal development. This can directly correlate with things like promotions. You want to be one step ahead of your associates, thinking of an associate promotion before they even receive it helps a leader be able to help them transition into that new position when the time comes. It is all about preparation and looking out for the personal and professional development of your associates. You never want to hold an associate back from success and achieving their goals so having that pool of go-to potentials is really important for employee growth and company growth.

Spring Hills Initiative And Benefits For Associates

It’s very simple. Associates want to know what they are getting out of the deal when they begin working for a company. That is why we offer a variety of incentives and benefits including discount programs to popular retail locations, competitive benefits packages, bonus structures based on excellent performance and many more. According to Chron, “Rewards and incentives in the workplace have benefits for both employees and employers. Through workplace rewards and incentives, employers and workers enjoy a positive and productive work environment.” Our incentives program and plethora of benefits are just one of many ways we strive to be the premiere employer in the healthcare space.

Open Communication

Just like in any relationship, open and constant communication is absolutely necessary for associates and employers to maintain. The most effective and successful businesses understand this and aim to create programs and policies that help encourage communication wherever possible. HRTechnologist notes that, “Often, effective communication at the workplace is what distinguishes a good leader from a great one. Communication at (the) workplace defines organizational goals and helps coworkers collaborate.” In senior living especially, when we need to work working together as a unit for the benefit of the individual in our care, communication is not merely important; it’s a necessity.

Flexible Scheduling, Wherever Possible

Our associates have lives and outside commitments just like anyone else. That is why, wherever possible, we work together with our associates to provide schedules that are flexible around their needs. Whenever we can make accommodations, we are happy to make them. Experts define workplace flexibility as, “Flexibility in the workplace allows employers and employees to make arrangements about working conditions that suit them. This helps employees maintain a work/life balance and can help employers improve the productivity and efficiency of their business.” Even healthcare workers are human. We understand that and aim to work with them wherever possible.

Promotion Opportunities from Within

There’s no better feeling for an associate than being recognized for their hard work. What better way to do that than offering promotion opportunities from within? One of the defining aspects of our company culture is our policy of promoting stellar associates to new and better opportunities from within, rather than opening up new positions to the external market. We know that our associates are rock stars so, when a position opens up, we look internally to fill those positions. This is just another way that we aim to make sure our employees feel heard and noticed.

At Spring Hills Senior Communities, we understand the importance of our associates and their growth in their work environment. We take pride in our company culture that is instilled in all of our associates to ensure that we are providing unparalleled care and meet the needs of every individual. We want not only our leadership to thrive and succeed but also every associate because they really are our most valuable resource.
