Spring Hills Cherry Hill Assisted Living welcomed musician Robert Rawlins, on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 as he launched his newest book, Tunes of the Twenties, at a musical event for the residents. Bob, who plays the clarinet, saxophone and flute, enlightened residents about the tales in Tunes of the Twenties while entertaining them with a variety of musical performances. Joined by musicians Franny Smith, a banjo player, and John McClernan, a tuba player, Bob shared his book filled with unknown stories and anecdotes about the songs we all know and love like Louis Armstrong’s “When the Saints Go Marching In” and “Melancholy Baby.”
A Professor of Music Theory at Rowan University, Robert Rawlins has written six books including Jazzology and The Real Dixieland Book. A musician as well, he has worked with hundreds of entertainers including Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Jay Leno, Regis Philbin, Rosemary Clooney, The Temptations, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Michael Feinstein.
