The injuries that may have been caused by a car accident, sports injury, surgery, or even illness can cause server pain and limited mobility. Getting back to normal may seem like an extremely stressful and long journey but, could be accelerated with rehabilitation therapy. MedlinePlus describes Rehabilitation therapy as, “care that can help you get back, keep, or improve abilities that you need for daily life. These abilities may be physical, mental, and/or cognitive (thinking and learning).” One of the many benefits for patients that choose rehabilitation therapy is that they will be able to return to the highest level of independent functioning possible. If you are still having a difficult time understanding what Rehabilitation therapy is and its benefits, continue reading.

Now you may be thinking, “How do you know if you need rehabilitation therapy?” Rehabilitation therapy is for individuals who have lost the ability to perform the activities of daily living. As mentioned earlier, injuries that were caused by an injury, surgery, or illness will qualify you for rehabilitation therapy. Some of the most common causes are:

  • Stroke
  • Joint Replacement
  • Orthopedic Trauma
  • Severe Infections
  • Developmental Disabilities

The goal is to develop an effective therapy program for each patient to help restore strength, coordination, and mobility. So if you’ve been injured, had surgery or a stroke, rehabilitation therapy can help you recover and get back to your regular lifestyle. There are many other physical, psychological, and overall health benefits to Rehabilitation Therapy, here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Reduces pain
  • Improves confidence
  • Prevents falls
  • Increases independence
  • Enhances the performance of ADLs

At Atrium Health & Senior Living, managed by Spring Hills Senior Communities, our specially trained occupational, physical, respiratory and speech therapy teams work together to create the most effective therapy program for each patient. From traditional therapies to treatment plans for a more complex recovery, our goal is to help restore strength, coordination, and mobility so the patient or resident can return to the highest level of independent functioning possible. Patients and their caregivers are also educated and trained in daily living skills (such as dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming), provided therapeutic activities for memory and comprehension and assisted with verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
