Seniors were treated to a professional classical concert featuring three musicians including Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) artist Vincent Cart-Sanders, 14, his father and nationally-acclaimed flutist Robert Cart and pianist Gina DiMedio Marrazza at Spring Hills Mt. Vernon Assisted Living. Together they performed a trio of sonata’s: Sonata in D Major, Op 94 by S. Prokofiev, Sonata in E minor, K. 304 by W.A. Mozart and Sonata in A Major by C. Franck. In addition to the concert, there was resident’s art work on display including Rhoda Seligman, 92, who taught art for over 20 years, William Schmitt, 81, and Spring Hills’ Mt. Vernon’s Executive Director, Thomas Clarke. There was be refreshments for all to enjoy.
Background on Musicians:
Vincent Cart-Sanders has studied violin since the age of four. In addition to his role as first violinist with the PYAO, he has also performed as a soloist in Concerts on the Square at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia and more. He is a student of Philly POPS Concertmaster Michael Ludwig. In addition to playing violin, Cart-Sanders was a two-time region nine champion gymnast, is a member of the South Jersey Rowing Team, and a painter in the Studio at Glen Gables and Studio Incamminati.
Robert Cart is Director of the Cali School of Music and Professor of Music as well as Cart-Sander’s father. He has served as Dean of Rowan University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts where he developed the Rowan Preparatory School and the Glassboro Fine and Performing Arts Academy. Cart has sung more than 15 leading tenors roles with opera companies internationally. He has performed at Carnegie Hall (premiering works by Gary Schocker and Roger Hudson), Alice Tully Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Philip’s Collection and the White House.
Gina DiMedio Marrazza has had a multi-faceted career as a collaborative pianist, teacher, and arts administrator. She has held faculty positions at American University and Duke Ellington School of the Arts. As an arts administrator, she has dedicated 17 years to the Levine School of Music in various administrative positions. Gina was also the Founding Director of Rowan Prep, a community school of music at Rowan University.
