“Visited my sister, Nola Holton, today at Spring Hills, Lake Mary, memory care unit. I am so pleased with my sister’s state of mind and body today. I don’t know the names of all of the people responsible for her care. Latifa or Sophia or Beth could be most responsible for Nola being happy there. I so greatly appreciate that her toe nails were cared for and that her hair was clean. Her state of mind was better also. Deepest thanks for those who care.”

Art and his wife Jo are some of our favorite people! We sat down with Art to ask him about the impact Spring Hills has had on their life. We are inspired daily to provide quality love and care to our residents, and all of our family works together, taking one step at a time.

My father loves his new home here. Most of the staff are great. David is a server in the dining room and we absolutely love him. He makes sure the residents are ordering a well balanced diet. Luz is just wonderful. She is so sweet and caring with the residents. She is very in-tune to their needs. As a nurse myself and certified in Dementia care I want the best for my dad.We put a communication board up so we could communicate some of my dad's needs and everyone has been very great with it. One caregiver wrote that he needed deodorant, which was great. My sister and myself see my dad most everyday, so we can use the board to communicate with the staff and some of our wishes as family. My sister and I wash his clothes and bedding. We write it on the board when his sheets are changed as so the staff doesn't change it. Unfortunately one caregiver, Annette, just gives us push back with the board. She changed his sheets 2 days after I changed his bedding and my sister asked her if she looked at the board and she stated" I don't look a no board. We change the sheets on Monday." All the staff know we do this. She was yelling at my sister in front of my dad causing him anxiety and my sister had to raise her voice just to speak with her because she kept interrupting her. My da was so upset he soiled his pants and had to be changed.I was on the phone and heard the whole conversation and she was very unprofessional.I came up to the facility and asked her her name and then went into my dad's apartment and rewrote on the board that family will change sheets and he needs depends on during the day, which she argued why he needs the depends on at a different occasion.I came out and asked for her and she came out and I said that I would like to show her the board and what is written and she immediately started yelling at me and interrupting me. She stated," I don't need to look at a stupid board, that I go by what our books say." She was so loud my dad came out of his room and raised his hand to her to let her know not to do it. I told her that I wasn't going to argue with her and she said,"Then don't." I had to take my dad to his apartment and calm him down and call his guardian. The guardian stated that he would address it AGAIN, because he was just up there an hour before. So when I left I told her the guardian will be up her in awhile to address the board with her and her response was,"I don't care what he does, I ain't looking at no stupid board. And I can't believe you are a nurse. Your patients much hate you." I responded by saying,"Excuse me, my patients love me."She responded by saying, "You are nurse ratchet. Just get the hell out and leave." I was so shocked at her behavior and there was a resident in the hall, who is always there in his wheel chair and he was becoming flushed and upset. As I got into the elevator I apologized to him for having to witness that. She is a bully. This is not the first time she was rude and talking down to my sister and myself. Not to mention how she speaks to my dad, very belittling. My sister and I love the facility and the other staff are wonderful, but Annette bullies us quite often. I'm sorry I had to write this, but other family has mentioned her to me as well.

We were so blessed to have found this place. They treated my Dad with love and respect, and I am sure he had to be one of their most difficult residents ever. Most of the staff members were absolutely wonderful, sweet, patient and kind to him. He was always clean and well taken care of. The facility is very clean, the food is amazing and there are so many activities during the day that the residents have the option to attend. I loved sitting out on the porch with my Dad. The staff made me feel welcome every time I came in the door. If I had anything negative to say at all, it would be the billing system, as our bill was incorrect literally every month my Dad was there and getting a returned call or email back always took multiple attempts reaching out usually without any response whatsoever. Other than that, they were above and beyond in every other way.
